Study on Propane’s Economic Contribution to the U.S. Economy Released

2005-03-07

The propane industry has always had a strong energy-security and environmental story to tell, but today thanks to a first-of-its-kind economic study, it can share the rest of the story: propane’s significant economic contribution to the U.S. economy.

A new study released by the National Propane Gas Association and the Propane Education & Research Council as part of the industry’s Capital Awareness Plan (CAP) shows the contribution the propane industry makes to the U.S. economy.  The study, completed by Energy and Environmental Analysis, Inc. of Arlington, Va., found that the propane industry is fueling the American economy with more than $30 billion in contributions to the gross domestic product and more than 56,000 American jobs.

Also available in the study is a breakdown of odorized propane’s impact on each state’s economy.  There are one-page fact sheets for every state listing how many gallons of odorized propane the state produces each year, direct value added to the state’s economy, total employment and the market value of propane sold.  The information given in this study can help members of the state associations leverage the messages they use in their own outreach efforts.  The study can be obtained from www.propanecouncil.org.
