Hurricane Katrina: Consumer Safety Tips Available Online

2005-09-09

Need safety information in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina? The National Propane Gas Association has developed a special web page with information on dealing with the aftermath of the disaster. The web page includes a news release with safety recommendations, a special 30-second public service announcement that can be used by radio stations in the affected areas, and a bulletin board for companies to post notices that they need assistance or can offer assistance. Marketers are encouraged to share the information with consumers and local media. The information can also be accessed by visiting NPGA’s home page or calling NPGA at (202) 466-7200.

Propane has a narrow range of flammability when compared with other petroleum products. In order to ignite, the propane/air mix must contain from 2.2 to 9.6 percent propane vapor. If the mixture contains less than 2.2 percent gas, it is too lean to burn. If it contains more than 9.6 percent, it is too rich to burn.
