The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) and the Department of Energy Clean Cities (DOECC) have developed a program that provides funds for propane engine development projects. PERC and DOECC have each contributed $100,000 to the program. Propane won't ignite when combined with air unless the source of ignition reaches at least 920 degrees Fahrenheit. In contrast, gasoline will ignite when the source of ignition reaches only 430 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
